CTFW Part III: Abigail Betz

Introducing South African designer:

Abigail Betz

With a strong sense of romance and the divine feminine in her work, Betz is considered not only as a designer of the ideal 'Pretty Dress,' but also as a design revolutionary that combines life as a whole with the perfect fairy tale depicted so beautifully in her floral-inspired dresses as well as her 'Holier-Than-Thou' wedding gowns that has earned her respect as South Africa's own Vera Wang.

In 2009, Betz proved that she is more than just a pretty face with romantic ideals when she cleverly entitled her summer line 'Screw The Recession,' by breaking through the barriers of reality encouraging the spectator to indulge in life rather than focus on financial despair and dooming politics. Abigail Betz has recreated the notion of Fashion in South Africa by creating strong vehicles of personal expression and truly relevant works of art.

For us here at Réfèt, the beauty of this collection lies in its simplicity and minimalism. Betz achieves a very fine balance of sophisticated elegance and pristine clarity, understated yet timeless. The clean lines of her designs are softened beautifully by feather-light chiffon and lace layers, giving the wearer an almost ethereal silhouette.

Whereas in our last post, we had an example of what the right combination of styling and clothing can offer, this collection demonstrates how transforming simple dress designs can be, even when paired with no remarkable accessories, makeup or hairstyles. These models are not even wearing shoes, and yet they exude a very delicate grace, swathed as they are in these seemingly-ageless gowns.

Miss Betz certainly didn't get nickname of South Africa's Vera Wang for nothing! Learn more about her design philosophy and couture weddings at www.abigailbetz.co.za.
