U.S. Chain to Now Stock South African Designers

Terrence Bray

August 1st marks the day in which Nordstrom's new SoHo concept store, Treasure & Bond, begins stocking its shelves with three South African designers: Leigh Schubert, Terrence Bray, and Colleen Eitzen. Already established in their home country, these designers are looking for similar success in the international fashion arena. Not only is this a great accomplishment for these three designers, but also for the future of other African designers looking to break into the U.S. and European market. While it's hard making it in the fashion world, African designers have to deal with even more hurdles than the average American or European designer. African labels have to deal with a high level of competition, the hassle of shipping costs and export license,  as well as the difficulty of being on different seasons than countries in the northern hemisphere.

Another little tidbit that makes us love Treasure & Bond even more is that fact that all the earnings made by this new shop will be donated to nonprofit organizations, charitable services, and causes.
